Introduction
Reform & Revolution’s (R&R) publication, Reform & Revolution, requests submissions to its 24th issue, tentatively titled Duck!. Since the end of 2025, the periodical Geese – self-described as a ‘daily review of American Communism’ – has released articles and editorials spanning myriad practical and theoretical issues facing America’s left. In Geese’s July 9th, 2026, piece “Towards Active Revolution: Where to Begin? The Permanent Campaign,” writer P.K. Gandakin implores interested activists to ‘start putting [your ideas] down on paper’; this issue seeks to meet Gandakin’s important call in a comradely fashion and utilize our space to disseminate peoples’ interaction with, responses to, and feelings about Geese’s political interventions.
This call for papers is open to any writer interested in furthering debates and conversations around articles produced by, or associated with, Geese’s work. There is no restriction on tendency or viewpoint, provided the writer contributes in good faith and substantively provides an original analysis of ongoing issues within the electoral, organizational, labor, or associated leftwing sites of struggle.
We also ask that comrades who submit pieces either include – or suggest! – a visual lead for their article. This could be a photo from an organizing event, a representative logo from your chapter, or anything that relates to the article in general.
Scope
This issue will publish several articles from our tendency, R&R, alongside those of other interested contributors. Provided the discussion is productive, polemics, supportive commentary, and anything in-between are welcome as submissions. A list of possible topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Comments on, or responses to, Project 2029
- Opinions on electoral – or abstentionist – strategy and Geese’s relationship to the same
- Your tendency’s interpretation and analysis of, or tasks related to, the arrival of a new popular socialist publication
- Responses to recent editorials or opinion pieces featured in Geese
- Political or theoretical criticism, support, or reimagining of popular Geese articles
These examples are not exhaustive. Anything related to the general theme will be considered; comrades are encouraged to send a very brief abstract or summary of their article alongside the completed document, so that communication can be streamlined. If a comrade wishes to submit a pitch or idea prior to writing a full piece, they are welcome to do so.
Editorial Policy
While Reform & Revolution hopes to utilize this issue as a broad spectrum, inclusive space for DSA comrades’ conversations adjacent to Geese, the members of our magazine’s Editorial Board (EBoard) will have final say in publication and stylistic guidelines. Our magazine traditionally employs spirited and comradely political editing for our members’ contributions; however, this issue is meant to curate viewpoints that differ from our own. Still, we ask that interested parties submit their pieces with the understanding that our EBoard may request stylistic changes. While our editorial policy allows for personal variation and authorial voice, we retain the right to ask for minor corrections prior to publication.
Please also make sure that, with the inclusion of any visual elements, you have the consent of anyone included or protect the identities of others.
Logistical Details
We ask that articles be substantial enough to address the key questions and concerns this issue hopes to broach; however, we also want to keep submissions reasonable in length, so that as many voices as possible may contribute. To that end, please observe the following guidelines:
- Articles should be no shorter than 750 and no longer than 2500 words. While minor variations over or below these limits will be considered, anything greater than 10% of the length requirements in either direction will not be.
- Rough draft articles should be submitted in at least a semi-edited state. Please submit a prospectus, abstract, or overview if you are unsure of whether the idea is appropriate.
- Articles may include headings, subheadings, or delineated sections.
- All articles which reference other pieces MUST include citations; while R&R does not currently have a formal guideline on citation style, we will endeavor to standardize this for the issue.
- Edits and requested changes must be made in a timely fashion.

Please note that, while it is possible we will receive more contributions than we can use, we will endeavor to remain in contact with writers and assist them in finding avenues for publication! Finally, all submissions – regardless of level of completeness – will remain private and internal to our Editorial Board; artistic ownership remains with the author. In the case where a piece is accepted or under discussion and other R&R members are brought into the conversation, the author will be alerted prior to dissemination.
