Interview with Texan Socialist: Fighting for a Green New Deal after the #TexasFreeze

Tens of millions of Texans are suffering immensely from the recent snowstorm and the crisis caused by the deregulated, private electricity market.  Millions of people are shocked and rightfully outraged at the miserable failure of the deregulated profit-driven energy system in Texas. That’s why it’s so valuable that Texas chapters of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are calling out Texas Republican Governor Abbot’s lies and defending the Green New Deal.

We in DSA’s Reform & Revolution caucus think it’s important to demand not just regulation of private energy companies, but democratic, public ownership of the big energy companies. This would avoid crises like we’re seeing in Texas and make it possible to transition rapidly to clean, renewable energy.

Ramy Khalil from the Reform & Revolution caucus interviewed Jordan Stewart about what DSA chapters in Texas are doing to promote the Green New Deal and public ownership of energy companies democratically controlled by the workers and working-class communities. Jordan is a Texan activist with DSA who is helping organize a response to the infrastructure crisis. Jordan serves on the Austin DSA Leadership Committee and is a member of DSA’s Reform & Revolution caucus.
