Video from the National Day of Action
Although President Biden and Congress have provided some temporary relief to working-class families, hundreds of millions of Americans continue to suffer during this pandemic at the hands of the profit-driven, bureaucratic healthcare companies. Saturday, July 24 was a National Day of Action to build the movement to replace the privately run, profit-driven healthcare system with a free, publicly run, universal system, “Medicare for All.” Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) participated in coalitions that organized rallies in over 50 cities across the country. In this inspiring speech from the rally in Portland, Oregon, Rosemary Dodd explains why working-class people and oppressed communities need socialized medicine and how we can build a mass movement to win it.
Rosemary Dodd is a food service worker, a member of Portland DSA’s Steering Committee, and a member of DSA’s Reform & Revolution caucus. If you like this speech and want to help build the movement for Medicare for All, join Democratic Socialists of America today.
